To Be Loved

Virat had a routine. He woke up at 6 AM, had breakfast, went to work, took a break for lunch at 1, and finally went home at six in the evening. The only leisure activities he did were jogging, exploring new restaurants and reading books.

That evening, he had decided to go jogging and headed to the park near his apartment. After jogging for a while, he took a break and sat on a bench, sipping water. Next to him sat a beautiful girl with grey eyes. Her eyes fluttered to his momentarily and moved away.

She finally cleared her throat and said, “It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it sure is.”, he said with a smile tugging the corner of his lips.

“By the way, I’m Simran.”

“Virat.”

They sat and talked for a long time.

Just before they parted, Virat said, ” I know we just met, but I feel like I’ve known you forever. You are going to think I’m crazy for saying this, I think I’m falling in love with you.”

The next evening, Virat decided to go and try the food at a new Mexican restaurant two blocks away.

He strolled peacefully in the narrow lane and reached the restaurant in fifteen minutes. He gently pushed the door open. The rich aroma of spices, people and herbs engulfed him.

The restaurant was packed. His eyes scanned the place frantically searching for a place to sit. Finally, he spotted a seat where a girl sat at a table for two. Something told him that the girl with the luscious black her would like his company. He approached her slowly.

He asked her with a cautious smile on his face, “Hello. Do you mind if I sit here with you? This is the only empty seat here.”

She assessed him for a second, shrugged nonchalantly and said, “I don’t mind.”

“By the way, I’m Virat.”

” Alice.”

They ate and talked for a long time.

Virat went to his favorite library every Sunday to issue some new books. He skimmed through the pages of a book wondering whether it was worth a read. A girl with rosy red lips was staring at him with a dreamy look on her face.

She said, “It’s a good read, I think you will enjoy the book.”

He chuckled and said, “Really? Then I guess I will.”

“By the way, I’m Afnan.”

“Virat.”

They read and talked for a long time.

Virat had been in a car accident a month ago and he suffers from traumatic brain injury, resulting in partial memory loss. He remembers a few things like how to work, his family and so on. But he doesn’t remember me as we met fairly recently.

I am Priyanka, his fiancé.

I morph into someone different every evening and set out to find Virat. Some days I do and on others, I don’t. Virat generally goes to places where we have spent time before.

No matter what, he always finds me. A part of his soul recognizes me in whatever form I am. I may be Simran, Alice, or Afnan, but he still manages to find me.

Sometimes, I wonder what good deed I did to be loved this way. How lucky am I to witness the love of my life fall for me over and over again, timelessly. I am truly blessed to be loved forever.
